Samsung Mobile
With Baby Boomers set to become the largest generation in the United States by 2013, Samsung Mobile was keenly interested in taking their needs into account when conceptualizing the future of mobile technology and its integration into lifestyle. Samsung Mobile approached ASU for this sponsored reseach exploration, and tasked our team with designing a physical smartphone as well as the user interface and overall experience. Our 8-person team, of which I was the user experience lead, was primarily composed of industrial designers. We began the project with both market research and interviews of individuals within the baby boomer demographic, which led to the focus on family connections, health, and lifestyle integration. Our final presentation showed three possible story lines; including a father and daughter on opposite extremes of the baby boom generation, as well a younger granddaughter. The result of our research is a product that not only allows for but enhances lifestyle integration. It shoes how one device can resist alienating a generation, but can accommodate that population while still being effective for younger users.
