Digital Curriculum

The Visual Communication Design program at Arizona State University is known for producing students with remarkable skills in typography and design. As part of their commitment to providing students with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of design, the VCD faculty is constantly working to maintain the high level of expertise in their program. In the Spring of 2010 I was brought on to help lead a committee with a focus on developing a strategy for teaching digital technology in design. A new type of curriculum is required; one that teaches students a fundamental vocabulary but also encourages them to research, experiment, and teach each other in a collaborative environment that can keep up with the speed of change in the digital world.

Since working with the committee, I have helped develop four new courses, taught two, and continue to work towards building an integrated digital design curriculum that can evolve over time.
